Europe Day 2019
Thursday, 9 May 2019 – 10.30 am, Plenary Room ‘Gabriele De Rosa’
The Center for European Studies (www.centrostudieuropei.it), directed by Prof. Massimo Pendenza, as part of the activities of the Jean Monnet European Module Culture and Memories: EU’s Strategies and Policy Developments, organizes in collaboration with the Department of Political and Social Studies (DiSPS), the fifth edition of the Europe Day.
This year’s guest is Alberto Martinelli (Emeritus Professor of Political Science and Sociology at the University of Milan), who will hold a Lectio Magistralis entitled Europe, Despite Everything.
The lesson will be preceded by institutional greetings from Gennaro Iorio (Director of the Department of Political and Social Studies) and Dario Verderame (Coordinator of the Jean Monnet EuCuMe Module). Introduction by Massimo Pendenza (Director of the Center for European Studies).
Before the lesson, a String and Voice Quartet composed by the Masters of the Liceo Musicale Alfano I Cello Voice – sextet of cellos and voice – from Salerno will cheer the audience by playing the Hymn to Joy. Since 1972, the melody, taken from the Ninth symphony composed in 1823 by Ludwig van Beethoven who put Friedrich von Schiller’s ode to music in 1785, has been used by the EU as its own anthem.
Furthermore, information material on the European Union will also be distributed by the European Documentation Center (CDE) of the University of Salerno.
